Resources for Self-Care

This week has been tough, especially as a black-owned company we grieve with the rest of the nation in the murders of black people at the hands of police brutality. Health and wellness for and by people of color are the centers of everything we do at Refolo, and the reason we started Refolo. But as Tracye Mcquirter said, “being vegan doesn’t raise my blood pressure, but systemic white supremacy does.” There are just some things that eating more plants won’t fix. At Refolo, we stand in solidarity with those protesting against racism, oppression, violence, and injustice.

We run a weekly newsletter and this week, we’re doing things a little differently and centering it around self-care. We rounded up plant-based comfort foods from around the world, musical playlists, virtual events, and ways to take action during this time. It might be odd to think about rest and care right now, but we believe Audre Lorde said it best when she said that “caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is selfpreservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” We hope everyone hurting right now finds someplace safe to grieve and to heal. Stay safe.
